General Responsibilities of Licensed Members
OPERATIONS AND RISK MANAGEMENT
- Each Outward Bound School must have general liability insurance for operations within their country.
- OBI and OB (UK) must be named as co-insured, with respect to licensing activities in the territory, and OBI should receive a copy of the current certificate of insurance.
- In collaboration with OBI each School arranges for external Safety and Quality reviews every two years and covers the review expenses.
- The governing body must meet on a regular basis and oversee safety.
QUALITY OF SERVICE
- Schools must have nonprofit status and place a strong emphasis on programs for youth.
- The School should maintain and promote the Outward Bound philosophy based on the concepts of Kurt Hahn and follow the spirit of the international mission statement.
- The School should be able to provide financial assistance to persons wishing to attend courses who otherwise could not afford the fees.
TERRITORY AND NON-COMPETITION

No Outward Bound School shall promote programs or services, recruit participants, solicit funds, etc. within the national boundaries of another Outward Bound School,
without advance written permission of the Outward Bound School in the affected territory and OBI.
- Marketing materials should be sent to OBI annually.
- Curricula should be published for all courses.
TRADEMARK PROTOCOLS
- OBI uses Humphreys & Co. as legal counsel to assure consistency in protecting the Outward Bound name.
- All Outward Bound Schools must use this law firm for licensing and trademark matters and are responsible for reimbursing OBI for all legal expenses.

Schools must monitor and take action against infringements and unauthorized use of the trademark. Fees incurred in this process are the responsibility
of the School. Guidelines for acting agains infringement are available from OBI.
- Schools cannot file for trademark registration in any country or sub-license within their own territory unless they have the consent of OBI.
- Schools may not use the trademark for any other usage (i.e. product endorsement) other than as permitted in the licensing agreement, without written consent of OBI.
FINANCIAL INTEGRITY
- Ordinary and Associate members will pay annual dues. Currently these are set as 0.1% of total gross income earned during the previous calendar year with a minimum of US$500.
- Schools must send OBI audited financial statements when requested or within 90 days of the end of the year.
